The Application Of Ferrovanadium
Ferrovanadium is used to make alloy steel. Around 90% of the world’s vanadium is used in the steel industry. It refines the grain size, increases the strength of the steel and suppresses its ageing effect in ordinary low alloy steel. In alloy structural steel, grain refinement increases the strength and toughness of the steel. It is used in conjunction with chromium or manganese in spring steel to increase the elastic limit of the steel and improve its quality. In tool steel, the main goal is to refine the structure and grain size of the steel, increase its tempering stability, and enhance its secondary hardness.
Vanadium makes tools stronger and longer-lasting. It also helps to make heat-resistant and hydrogen-resistant steels. When you add vanadium to cast iron, it helps to make pearlite. This makes the cementite more stable and the graphite particles finer and more uniform. This improves the grain size of the matrix, making the casting stronger, harder, and more resistant to wear.
